WINTER RED RELEASE

WATER WITCH + LONELY HEART + OLD VINES

Get ready for February with three new releases from Mark Ryan Winery! We’re thrilled to get you in the tasting room to try these limited production and highly acclaimed wines.

2020 WATER WITCH

Mark’s grandfather was an actual water witch many years ago – he located water in Eastern Washington farmlands. Our WATER WITCH label dates back to 2005,

In 2012, we partnered with Quintessence Vineyards to plant a 13.6-acre block on the south slope of Red Mountain. No expense was spared in the design and development of the site. We worked hand-in-hand with the Quintessence Vineyard team to transform the 13.6-acre site into a world-class vineyard and this team effort culminated in the reincarnation of one of the original wines in the Mark Ryan lineup: Water Witch.

LONELY HEART

Ever since the early 2000’s, we choose the best of the best cabernet sauvignon barrels and blend painstakingly to produce LONELY HEART - our reserve selection, always Red Mountain, cabernet sauvignon. The name is as powerful, bold, and brooding

The 2020 Lonely Heart is a single-vineyard cabernet sauvignon from our custom planted blocks at Quintessence on Red Mountain. When working with such extraordinary fruit we strive to elevate and support its unique qualities without obscuring the profile with heavy-handed winemaking techniques. Our strategy targets ideal extraction to coax maximum aroma and flavor out of the fruit without over-extracting the harsher components that can make a wine awkward and unbalanced. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is lightly pressed to barrel where it is aged for 21 months in 92% new French oak. Our goal is to allow the amazing qualities of the fruit to be freely expressed in the finished wine.

OLD VINES

We’ve been sourcing fruit for our OLD VINES label from some of the oldest vineyards in Washington State since 2012. This fruit provides us an incredible foundation to do what we do best in production – craft our style, with all its boldness, and a heavy dose of elegance & finesse. The result is a cabernet sauvignon that has serious depth, balance, and aging capability.

The 2020 Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon honors two of the oldest and most well-respected vineyards in the state. Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1994 at Ciel du Cheval on Red Mountain provides mouth-filling flavors of complex, sweet fruit, and spice. Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Willow planted in 1991 contributes intense spice and floral aromatics and brings substantial weight and volume to the palate. The old, gnarled vines from these blocks are more self-regulating in the vineyard, offering lighter crops, smaller berries and extremely concentrated aromatics and flavors.
